It's time to put an end to the preconceived notion that silk is the only fabric that is good for the skin and hair. In fact, too few people know that bamboo offers exactly the same qualities and even more.

Most bed sheets are made from cotton, which is hardly an environmentally-friendly material. Industrial cotton is mainly grown in monocultures. This type of production requires around 20,000 liters of water per kilogram of cotton. Combine this astronomical amount of water with the number of pesticides used, and it's easy to see why this material is so harmful to the environment. Between 16% and 25% of the insecticides used worldwide are applied to cotton fields, despite the fact that these crops account for just 2.5% of the planet's agricultural land. As well as being harmful to our planet, these pesticides and fertilizers are toxic to humans and pose a major health risk to workers.

The fabric's moisture-regulating properties are also excellent for the skin. Keeping your body at the right temperature during the night prevents you from sweating and therefore dehydrating your skin. What's more, unlike materials like cotton, bamboo doesn't absorb all the moisture from your skin. This is a huge advantage, as wrinkles are more likely to appear on dry skin.

Like silk, bamboo bedding also has anti-acne properties. This means it is ideal for people with sensitive skin, who tend to develop pimples or acne. Another property that bamboo pillowcases have in common with silk bedding is that they also regulate sebum production on the face and hair. The supreme softness of bamboo bedding causes less friction on the skin, which automatically reduces sebum production and therefore the risk of skin problems and acne.

The softness of bamboo fiber allows your hair to slide as it comes into contact with the sheets, considerably reducing frizz in the morning. Although soft, bamboo fabric has the advantage of being less slippery than satin, so your duvet always stays put. In short, your bamboo bed sheets have all the qualities of silk or satin, while being entirely natural, vegan and without cruelty to animals.
